Gibbs nets a career-high 22 points in Rams' 67-58 win over Nyack

NYACK, N.Y. – Freshman guard Andre Gibbs (Smyrna, Del./Smyrna) shot 6-of-9 from the field and 8-of-8 at the free throw line to score a career-high 22 points in the Philadelphia University's 67-58 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) victory over host Nyack Saturday afternoon in Bowman Gym.

Freshman forward Peter Alexis (Wilkes-Barre, Pa./Holy Redeemer) contributed 16 points and 10 rebounds for the Rams (6-2, 3-1 CACC)—who never trailed in the game.

Freshman forward Derek Johnson (Conshohocken, Pa./Atlantic Christian) poured in 13 points, while senior guard Jim Connolly (Harleysville, Pa./Souderton Area) added 10 points and seven rebounds.

Nyack (1-8, 0-5 CACC) had three players in double figures, led by Tevin Evans' 16 points. Khalid Samuels and Chris Hampton added 10 points each.

Philadelphia sprinted out to a 13-4 lead in the opening 5:42. Gibbs converted two three-point plays to pace the charge with six points.

After a Frank Martin jumper pulled Nyack within two (21-19), the Rams scored 10 of the game's next 12 points to take their first double-digit lead of the game at 31-21 with 3:06 left in the half. Philadelphia led at the break 37-25.

A 10-2 run, capped by two made free throws by junior guard Nick Christian (Bensalem, Pa./Bensalem) with 5:21 to play, gave Philadelphia its lead of the contest at 59-39.

Behind eight points from Hampton, the Warriors went on a 19-1 charge to make it a two-point affair (60-58) with 2:29 still to go.

Philadelphia managed to hang on by forcing Nyack to shot 0-of-7 from the field the rest of the way, while hitting seven of their eight free throws.

The Rams had a solid day at the free throw line as they hit 80.0 percent (24-of-30) of their attempts. From the field, Philadelphia was a 46.3 percent (19-of-41) shooting team.

Nyack connected at a 41.7 percent (25-of-60) clip from the floor and 44.4 percent (4-of-9) at the line.

Philadelphia outrebounded Nyack, 37-28.

The Rams are off for a week before taking on Adelphi on Saturday, Dec. 15 in Garden City, N.Y. at 3:30 p.m.
