Gibbs earns CACC’s first men’s basketball rookie of the week award of 2013

NEW HAVEN, Conn. – Freshman guard Andre Gibbs (Smyrna, Del./Smyrna) was tabbed as the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference's (CACC) men's basketball rookie of the week Wednesday. The award took into account all games played from Dec. 17 through Jan. 1.

Gibbs—the CACC rookie of the week for the second time this season—averaged 11.5 points and 5.0 rebounds in a pair of Ram games. He also shot 40.0 percent (8-of-20) from the field.

In a 57-52 loss to Stonehill on Dec. 29, he scored nine points, grabbed five rebounds, and recorded two steals. Gibbs scored a team-high 14 points, hit half of his three-point attempts (4-of-8), and corralled five rebounds in a 62-57 setback to No. 13 Assumption on Dec. 30.

Gibbs is leading the squad with 38 assists, and ranks second with 14.8 points per game, and a field goal percentage of 46.8. In the CACC, Gibbs ranks first in minutes played per game (39.1), fifth in free throw percentage (85.3), ninth in assist-to-turnover ratio (1.5), and 12th in assists.

Philadelphia (7-5) begins the 2013 portion of its schedule with a CACC contest against visiting Post on Saturday, Jan. 5 at 4 p.m.
