PHILADELPHIA – The weekend of December 14-15 will be a big one for the Philadelphia University men's basketball team as it will get to showcase its talent on a national stage with a pair of broadcast games.
Philadelphia's Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference match-up against Goldey-Beacom in the Gallagher Center on Saturday, Dec. 14 will air on the CBS Sports Network as the featured Division II Game of the Week. The game will kick off the eighth year of Division II men's and women's basketball games airing on CBS Sports Network. Tip-off time is slated for 3 p.m.
The contest between the Rams and Lightning will be the first time that Philadelphia has been on national TV since it was the Division II Game of the Week on Feb. 9, 2008. On that day, Philadelphia upended Holy Family, 64-59.
Twenty-four hours later, Philadelphia travels to Boston College for an exhibition contest that will be shown on ESPN3. ESPN3 is the online outlet for the ESPN Family of Networks, which will make the game available on ESPN3.com or on mobile devices through the WatchESPN app. The contest begins at noon.
The Rams are coached by Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame inductee Herb Magee—who enters his 47th season as the team's head coach. The winningest head coach in NCAA men's basketball history with 960 wins, Magee will square off against a pair of former assistant coaches. Goldey-Beacom's head coach Chuck Hammond was an assistant under Magee from 1999 through 2003. Steve Donohue, the head coach of Boston College, was a member of Magee's staff from 1988 to 1990.
Philadelphia opens its 2013-14 season against the College of Saint Rose in the East Region Classic at Holy Family on Saturday, Nov. 9 at 4 p.m.
