LAKEWOOD, N.J. – Sophomore forward Peter Alexis (Wilkes-Barre, Pa./Holy Redeemer) and junior guard Nick Schlitzer (Pottsville, Pa./Pottsville) combined to score 49 points and grab 18 rebounds in the Philadelphia University men's basketball team's 85-63 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) victory at Georgian Court Thursday night.
Alexis was Philadelphia's (13-5, 7-2 CACC) leading scorer with a game-high 27 points on 10-of-15 shooting. Schlitzer went 7-of-17 from the field to record 22 points. Alexis and Schlitzer each posted nine rebounds.
Alexis and senior guard Nick Christian (Bensalem, Pa./Bensalem) each scored four early points to help the Rams get out to a 13-5 lead 4:22 into the contest.
Sophomore guard Andre Gibbs (Smyrna, Del./Smyrna) made a put-back lay-up at the 13:26 mark to give Philadelphia its first double-digit lead of the game (18-7).
After Keith Hughes trimmed the Ram lead to 10 (26-16) with a 3-point basket with 8:08 left in the first half, Philadelphia outscored Georgian Court (2-15, 0-10 CACC) 16-6 over a 6:11 stretch to move ahead by 20 for the first time (42-22). Schlitzer led the charge with seven points.
In the second half, the Rams moved ahead by a game-high 32 points when sophomore forward TJ Huggins (Alexandria, Va./TC Williams) drained a lay-up with 14:37 left to play.
Gibbs finished the game with 13 points and six assists, while Huggins poured in 12 points on 6-of-8 shooting. Christian ended up with nine points and a game-high seven assists.
Georgian Court received 22 points and a game-high 11 rebounds from Jordan Wejnert. Hughes had 19 points and Jalen Robinson scored 12 points.
Philadelphia shot 54.1 percent (33-of-61) from the field, while Georgian Court connected on 33.3 percent (21-of-63) of its attempts. The Lions owned a 42-40 rebounding edge.
Philadelphia returns home on Saturday, Jan. 25 to take on defending CACC champion Bloomfield. Tip-off is slated for 4 p.m.
