NEW HAVEN, Conn. – Philadelphia University sophomore forward Peter Alexis (Wilkes-Barre, Pa./Holy Redeemer) has earned the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference's (CACC) men's basketball player and defensive player of the week awards on Monday.
In two Philadelphia victories, Alexis—now a three-time CACC player of the week and a two-time CACC defensive player of the week—averaged 23.5 points, 10.0 rebounds, and 4.5 blocks, and shot 70.4 percent (19-of-27) from the floor.
Alexis narrowly missed a triple-double in Philadelphia's 84-55 victory over Post in the first round of the CACC Tournament on March 1. In 38 minutes of action, he recorded 24 points—on 9-of-12 shooting— 13 rebounds, and a career-high nine blocked shots. Ten of Alexis' 13 rebounds came on the defensive end. Alexis played all 40 minutes and posted 23 points, seven rebounds, and two assists as the Rams defeated Goldey-Beacom 75-71 on Feb. 25 in the regular season finale.
This season Alexis has 18.3 points per game, 9.5 rebounds per game, 52 blocks, and a shooting percentage of 60.3. Alexis ranks second in the CACC minutes per game (37.6), field goals made (222), and field goal shooting, third in rebounding, and fifth in scoring and blocks. Nationally, he is seventh in minutes per game and field goals made, and 14th in double-doubles (13).
Philadelphia (23-6) will face USciences in the semifinal round of the CACC Tournament on Friday, March 7 at Caldwell College starting at noon.
