Alexis named to Philadelphia Inquirer Academic All-Area Men’s Basketball Team

PHILADELPHIA – Philadelphia University sophomore Peter Alexis (Wilkes-Barre, Pa./Holy Redeemer) was named to the 2014 Philadelphia Inquirer Academic All-Area Men's Basketball Team on Wednesday. The team was selected by the 28 sports information offices in the Philadelphia metropolitan area.

Alexis, a center for the Rams, is a psychology major with a 3.574 grade-point average. He was named to the Capital One Division II Academic All-District 1 Men's Basketball Team and the 2013-14 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference Winter All-Academic Team.

On the court, Alexis finished second in the CACC in minutes per game (37.5), field goal shooting (60.4 percent), field goals made (246), and double-doubles (15); third in rebounding (9.5 per game); and fifth in scoring (18.2 points per game) and blocks (57).

Alexis scored his 1,000th-career point on March 15 against Franklin Pierce in the opening round of the NCAA Division II East Region Tournament.

He was tabbed for the Daktronics All-East Region first team, National Association of Basketball Coaches Division II Men's Basketball All-District second team, All-CACC first team, and the City of Basketball Love Division II All-Area first team.

To be eligible for Academic All-Area consideration, an athlete must be a sophomore academically and athletically, be in his second year at the institution, and have a cumulative grade-point average of at least 3.20.
