Men's basketball gets No. 8 seed; Faces American International in first round

PHILADELPHIA – The Philadelphia University men's basketball team received the No. 8 seed in the NCAA Division II Men's Basketball East Region Tournament and will face No. 1 seed and host school American International College in the opening round of the Tournament on Saturday, March 14.

Game time and ticket information will be made public later in the week.

Philadelphia (24-7) earned the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference's (CACC) automatic bid into the NCAA Tournament after defeating Wilmington (Del.) 77-68 in the conference championship game on Saturday night.

The Rams are in the NCAA Tournament for the 34th time in program history, the 28th under Naismith Memorial Hall of Fame head coach Herb Magee. Philadelphia's 34 appearances are second in Division II history, trailing only Kentucky Wesleyan's 37 appearances.

Philadelphia is 33-37 all-time in the NCAA Tournament. The Rams won the 1970 national championship and have been to five Elite Eights.

American International (23-6) made the Tournament by winning the Northeast-10 championship and getting the conference's automatic bid.

The Philadelphia/AIC matchup faces the winner of No. 4 seed Bridgeport and No. 5 seed Southern Connecticut on Sunday, March 15. The East Region Final will be held on Tuesday, March 17.

In the other half of the bracket, No. 2 seed Southern New Hampshire takes on No. 7 seed Stonehill and No. 3 seed St. Anselm faces off against No. 6 seed University of the Sciences.

The winner of the region advances to the Elite Eight, which begins on March 25 in Evansville, Ind.
