NEW HAVEN, Conn. – Philadelphia University senior center Malcolm Gilbert (Smyrna, Del./Academy of the New Church) was selected as the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) defensive player of the week Monday.
Gilbert led the Philadelphia defensive effort, which held its opponents to 59.5 points, with 6.0 blocks and 4.5 defensive rebounds in a 2-0 week against the CACC.
In Philadelphia's 71-57 win at the University of the Sciences on Feb. 7, Gilbert threw a block party as he swatted a career-high nine shots to go along with four defensive rebounds. Gilbert was the first Ram to block nine shots in a game since Peter Alexis had nine against Nyack on February 14, 2015.
Gilbert recorded five defensive rebounds and three blocked shots in the Rams' 71-62 triumph over Caldwell on Feb. 11.
Offensively, Gilbert scored six points in the road win against Devils and five against the Cougars.
In just 14 games, Gilbert is ranked fifth in the CACC with 27 blocked shots. He is averaging 4.6 points and 3.9 rebounds per game.
Philadelphia (17-8, 13-3 CACC) heads to Georgian Court for a conference clash on Thursday, Feb. 16 at 8 p.m. in the Wellness Center.
