Camden, NJ- The Philadelphia University men's and women's rowing teams competed in the Knecht Cup on the Cooper River over the weekend. The teams raced several different events, including: Men's Novice 4, Men's Varsity 4, Men's Varsity 8, Men's Club 4, Women's Club 4, Women's Varsity 4, Women's Varsity 8, Women's 2V8, Men's Novice 8 and Women's Novice 8.
The format of the regatta was as follows: each boat had to qualify in the heats (dependent on the number of boats), then advance through the semifinals and into the Grand Final. PhilaU had several boats making it to the Grand Finals including: Men's Novice 4, Men's Varsity 4, Women's Varsity 4, Women's Varsity 8, Men's Novice 8, Women's Club 4, and Men's Varsity 4 DII/DIII.
The following boats medaled:
- Men's Novice 4 (Silver) stroke: Kevin Perry, 3: Colin Evans, 2: Phillip Luu, bow: Chris Valotta, coxswain: Alex Jones
- Women's Varsity 4 (Silver) stroke: Simone Kettell, 3: Kara Knox, 2: Maureen Agnew, bow: Lindsey Catov, coxswain: Magda Dzierzanowski
- Women's Varsity 8 (Bronze) stroke: Maria McDevitt, Briana Zelinski, Renee Rozaieski, Casey Watrous, Simone Kettell, Kara Knox, Maureen Agnew, Lindsey Catov, coxswain: Magda Dzierzanowski.
The teams return to action on Saturday, April 18th on the Schuylkill River for the Kerr Cup.
