Rams’ Varsity Four makes pair of grand finals at the Knecht Cup
CHERRY HILL, N.J. – The Rams' Varsity Four boat will represent Philadelphia University in a pair of Knecht Cup grand finals after numerous strong showings Saturday on the Cooper River.
The boat, coxed by Alex Jones and featured Logan Smith, Kevin Hines, Chris Valotta and Zach Wilmarth, started the day with a preliminary heat one victory with a time of 7 minutes, 01.11 seconds, holding off Army by a boat length.
Then the Varsity Four boat qualified for the grand final with a time of 6:56.78, third in its semifinal heat. Penn State took the heat in 6:47.30.
In between those races, the team qualified for the Division II/III grand final by posting a second place finish in its heat after completing the event in 7:04.20. Dowling, the heat winner, had a time of 6:56.30.
The all-division grand final will go off at 10:20 a.m. on Sunday, April 15 and features Marist, Penn State, UMass, Fordham and Army. The D-II/III grand final, with the United States Merchant Marine Academy, Dowling, Rutgers-Camden, Washington College and Mary Washington, will be contested 30 minutes later.
