PHILADELPHIA, Pa. – Bloomfield's Terry Gibbs scored 4:16 into the overtime session to give the Deacons a 4-3 victory over the Philadelphia University men's soccer team in a wild Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) match Saturday afternoon on Ravenhill Field.
The Rams (5-9, 3-7 CACC) trailed 2-0 with 43:12 left in regulation. Ian Martin brought Philadelphia back with a pair of goals. Martin's first goal, an unassisted tally, came with 32:56 left. He struck again with 21 minutes remaining after heading in a free kick taken by Mark Louro. Less than five minutes later Philadelphia took a 3-2 lead when John Hlava found the back of the net. Martin assisted on the play to earn his fifth point.
The Deacons (8-6-1, 6-3-1 CACC) tied the game at three on a Juan Ramirez goal at the 83:35 mark after a scramble in front of the Ram net.
Bloomfield had the only two chances in the overtime period. Gibbs' chance ended the game as he broke free after receiving a back-heel pass from Peter Beckford. Edwin Ventura also assisted on the game-winning goal.
Philadelphia keeper Thomas Attamante stopped eight shots in a losing effort. Bloomfield's Daniel Hyde made five stopped. The Rams outshot the Deacons, 22-20.
Gibbs scored his first goal of the game in the 36th minute to give the Deacons a 1-0 lead. Jeffery Dapaah extended the lead to 2-0 with 43:12 left.
Philadelphia travels to Chestnut Hill College for a CACC match Tuesday, Oct. 25 at 7 p.m.
