WATERBURY, Conn. – The Jefferson (Philadelphia University + Thomas Jefferson University) men's soccer team (1-1, 1-0 CACC) took down the Post Eagles (1-2, 0-1 CACC) to begin CACC conference play on Saturday afternoon from Connecticut. The win got the Rams into the win column after they dropped their season opener to West Chester back on August 31.
The play was physical from LaMoy Field in the Rams' victory as a total of six yellow cards and two red cards were assessed in the conference opener. The teams combined for seven shots in the opening 45 minutes, none on goal, leading to a scoreless first half.
The Eagles gained the first advantage, scoring in the 59th minute to take a 1-0 lead as Matteo Morro and Alvaro Sanchez assisted on Adrian Lekaj's goal.
Just 44 seconds later, junior Jason Rocha of Jefferson found the back of the net for the equalizer on a hard shot from the left side for his first goal of the year.
Senior Valdo Jean-Baptiste scored the game-winning goal in the 77th minute as fellow classmate Seiji Rose fed him the ball on a corner kick. Both came as the first goal and first assist for Jean-Baptiste and Rose on the 2017 campaign.
In total, Jefferson led shots 13-4, six of which were on goal for the Rams while none were on target for the Eagles.
The men return to action on Tuesday, Sept. 12 for a 3 p.m. kickoff against Mercy College in Dobbs Perry, N.Y.
