Philadelphia, PA- The Philadelphia University men's tennis team took a 5-4 win and the women got a 6-3 victory- both over visiting East Stroudsburg University on Sunday afternoon. In the men's night cap, the Rams fell 6-3 to Washington College.
For the men, sophomores #4 singles Tom McAvoy (Phoenixville, PA/ Phoenixville) and #6 singles Seppi Hutter (Bellevue, WA/ Bellevue) were the only two Rams to get wins at both singles and doubles. The duo paired up to win their #2 doubles match 8-3.
Additionally, #1 freshman singles Adrian Torroella-Cruz (Gainesville, Fl/Gainesville) breezed to a 6-1, 6-1 win, and #2 singles freshman Manoli Sgouros (Forest Hills, NY/ Holy Cross) won 6-0, 6-0 in his solo match.
Against Washington, the Rams got points from #1 singles Torroella-Cruz, #2 singles Sgouros and the tandem at #1 doubles.
For the women, the sophomore #1 and #2 singles players and doubles team Adriana Rodriguez (San Juan, Puerto Rico/Colegio Sagrados Corazones) and Daniela Rodriguez (Quito, Ecuador/Colegio Manor) cruised to wins in both solo and doubles play.
The men's team returns to action on Tuesday, March
24th at Caldwell at 3:00 p.m., while the
women travel to Queens on Sunday, March 29th at 1:00 p.m.
