2010 Mens Tennis Season Highlights
The Philadelphia University men’s tennis team, led by first-year coach Cha Goods, completed their 2009-10 campaign at the NCAA East Regional Tournament, falling in a second-round match to the #1 seeded Concordia College Clippers 5-0, hosted by Queens College in Flushing, NY.
PhilaU picked up their first-ever NCAA win in the first round of the East Regional, capturing a 5-1 victory over #5 seed Merrimack College.
The team also finished with an overall record of 20-7 (10-2 CACC), no small feat for a roster that contains just two starting upperclassmen. The Rams received an at-large bid to the NCAA Regional after falling to Concordia 5-0 in the CACC Championship match.
The Rams, who faced the #11 nationally-ranked Clippers four times this season (twice in the post-season), still have much to smile about. The squad will return all starters, including two-time Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) ‘Player of the Year’ Adrian Torroella-Cruz, the team’s #1 singles player. Torroella-Cruz battled to two CACC crowns this year, winning both the Singles title and then the doubles championship with junior partner Manoli Sgouros. Both were named to the All-Conference team.
Coach Goods’ promises a Ram squad that will return even fiercer in 2010-11, so stay posted to www.philaurams.com for all the latest PhilaU Athletics information.
