PHILADELPHIA, Pa. – The Philadelphia University men's tennis team cruised to a 9-0 against Caldwell College in its Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) opener on Tuesday afternoon.
The Rams (3-8, 1-0 CACC) got the match started off with strong showings in doubles action. The No. 1 team of Manoli Sgouros and Kyle Burke and the No. 3 tandem of Long Vo and Taylor Dedeke earned 8-0 wins in their respective matches. Ryan Christopher and Adrian Torroella-Cruz defeated George Mikula and Cole Downs in the No. 2 match 8-1.
Christopher made quick work of Downs in the No. 4 singles match with a 6-0, 6-0 win. No. 2 Sgouros and No. 5 Dedeke each came through with a 6-0, 6-1 victory. Torroella-Cruz was victorious over Christopher Long in the No. 1 flight 6-2, 6-3. Burke picked up a 6-2, 6-1 win over Mikula in the No. 3 match and Vo came out a 6-0, 6-3 winner over Michael Mongelli at No. 6.
Caldwell is now 0-2 overall and 0-1 in the CACC.
Philadelphia has a non-conference match against West Chester on Thursday, March 22 at 3 p.m.
