POMONA, N.J. – Sergei Cendo recorded his second victory of the 2017 season to lead the Philadelphia University men's track team at the Osprey Open on Saturday at Stockton University.
Cendo cruised to victory in the 5,000-meter run as he crossed the finish line in a personal-best time of 15 minutes, 25.07 seconds, winning the race by over 33 seconds. It was the first time that Cendo has competed in the 5,000 this season. The victory is Cendo's second of the season, also winning the 1,500-meter run at the Ursinus Invitational on March 25.
Also running the 5,000 for the first time this year, Ethan Fadale turned in a strong performance, as he took third with a time of 16:10.86. Zachary Samalonis had the 18th-place time of 16:57.79, while Gregory Dawson came in 21st with a time of 17:40.67.
Valmar Wilson led the Philadelphia contingent in the 800-meter run as he crossed the finish line in fifth with a personal-best time of 2:02.17. Jake Wong ended the race with a time of 2:07.14 to take 21st. Saadedine Traboulsi was 41st (2:14.66) and Shane Fleming claimed 43rd (2:16.21).
Charles Griffin set a personal-best time in the 3,000-meter steeplechase as he ran the race in 11:.33.03. Griffin finished ninth overall.
The Rams' 4x800-meter relay team of Cendo, Fadale, Wilson, and Wong posted the team's best time of the season, 8:10.96, to come in third place.
Philadelphia heads to Widener University to compete in the Widener Invitational on Saturday, April 22.
