XC Women Take 6th, Men 10th at 2008 at NCAA East Regionals
Boston, MA- The Philadelphia University men's and women's cross country teams competed at the 2008 NCAA East Regionals, held at Franklin Park and hosted by the University of Massachusetts-Lowell on Sunday. The team is set to compete at the IC4A/ECAC Championships on Saturday, November 22nd at Van Cortland Park in New York City to officially end the season.
Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) 'Freshman of the Year' Sarah Simonetti (Perkasie, PA/ Pennridge) had the best individual finish for a PhilaU runner- taking 12th overall (23.43.6) in the women's 6K to earn USTFCCCA All-Region honors. Her 6K time broke the school-record set by Faith Anderson (23:45) at the 2007 NCAA East Regionals. She also became the first CACC runner to earn the USTFCCCA All-Region award.
The women ran to sixth-place overall of 23 teams, while the men finished 10th overall out of 24 teams.
Four CACC All-Conference women ran well for the Lady Rams, as junior Faith Anderson (Dover, PA/ Dover) took 29th overall (24:29.1) and freshman Madelyn Trout (Concord, OH/ Riverside) finished 42nd in 24:51.8. Other finishers for PhilaU included freshman Gabrielle Dei Tos (Freeland, PA/ MMI Prep) in 44th and sophomore Kaitlin O'Leary (Marlton, NJ/ Cherokee) in 45th.
On the men's side CACC All-Conference junior Shawn D'Andrea (Blackwood, NJ/ Paul VI) led the way with a 17th-place overall finish (32:25.2) in the 10K, which set a PhilaU 10K school record- smashing Ian Swift's record of 32:50 set in 1990.
Junior Kirk Tencate (Wayne, NJ/ Wayne Valley) finished in 48th-place (34:18.4), while sophomore Schneider Eliassaint (Maplewood, NJ/ Columbia Senior) took 67th and junior Andrew Piotrowski (Warminster, PA/ William Tennant) placed 69th.
