Men's XC Recap
Philadelphia, PA- The Philadelphia University men's cross country team wrapped up a banner year in 2009 recently.
The Rams made Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) history by winning their first-ever conference title to make it a sweep as the women's team also won at the CACC Championships on a rainy Saturday afternoon at Belmont Plateau. No other team had ever won both the men's and women's championships.
The men were led by junior Shawn D'Andrea (Blackwood, NJ/ Paul VI) who finished second overall in 27:29 to match his best CACC Championship performance (he finished second overall as a sophomore). Other PhilaU All-Conference finishers were: senior Andrew Piotrowski in fourth (27:59), Kip Kirui in fifth (28:12), Tyler Dye in sixth (29:21) and Kirk Tencate in 15th (29:02). All five made the CACC All-Conference team.
Earlier in the year the men's team also won the Philadelphia Metro Championships.
Two weeks later at the NCAA East Regionals in Boston at Franklin Park, PhilaU took eighth overall as senior Piotrowski led his squad taking 30th place in 33:30, with the next closest Ram being D'Andrea who took 34th in 33:38.
