PhilaU Runs for Both Team Titles at Phila Metro Championships
Philadelphia, PA- The Philadelphia men's and women's cross country teams raced to both team titles at the Philadelphia Metro Invitational at Belmont Plateau in Philadelphia on Saturday afternoon. The first-place finish was the men's first this season, and the third straight for the women.
On the men's side, senior Shawn D'Andrea (Blackwood, NJ/ Paul VI) took second-place (26:34) in the men's 8K, leading the men to their first finish ever over Felician College- last year's Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Champions.
The top three men's teams were: PhilaU (30), Felician (61) and University of the Sciences (87).
Rounding out the top ten were: fourth-place senior Andrew Piotrowski (Warminster, PA/ William Tennant), fifth-place sophomore Tyler Dye (Hanover, PA/ Delone Catholic), ninth-place senior Kirk Tencate (Wayne, NJ/ Wayne Valley) and in 10th freshman Kip Kirui (Rift Valley, Kenya/ Kilgoris).
For the women, sophomore stud Sarah Simonetti (Perkasie, PA/ Pennridge) won her third straight race (19:26) en route to the women's individual title. She was followed closely by sophomore Anjelica Dinucci (Baltimore, MD/ Dulaney) in second-place.
The top three women's finishers were: PhilaU (43), Georgian Court (58) and Ursinus College (138) Securing the Lady Ram's victory were: 12th-place senior Faith Anderson (Dover, PA/ Dover), sophomore 13th-place Gabrielle Dei Tos (Freeland, PA/ MMI Prep) and junior 15th-place Kaitlin O'Leary (Marlton, NJ/ Cherokee).
Both teams head to the Paul Short Run next weekend- Friday (10/2) at Lehigh University.
