DOYLESTOWN, Pa. – The Jefferson (Philadelphia University + Thomas Jefferson University) men's cross country team finished second at the eight-team DelVal Invitational to open the 2017 fall campaign. The 5,000-meter race was hosted by Delaware Valley University in Doylestown, Pa. on Saturday morning.
Graduate transfer Milan Duka (Belgrade, Serbia / Aviation Acdemy) led the Rams with a second-place finish individually in the 95-person field. He came in with a time of 16:26.6 (5:18 pace) behind Messiah's Benjamin Schott at 16:05.2. Messiah grabbed first place in the event overall.
Behind Duka for the Rams was junior Sergei Cendo (Cumberland, Md. / Allegany) in ninth place with a time of 17:01.6 (5:29 pace).
Junior Ethan Fadale (Selinsgrove, Pa. / Selinsgrove) and freshman Ben Nardi (Forest Hill, Md. / North Harford) came in 13th and 15th place, respectively, with times of 17:21.9 (5:36 pace) and 17:34.0 (5:40 pace).
Junior Valmar Wilson (Lancaster, Pa. / Milton Hershey) rounded out the top-five finishers for the Rams at 18:23.3 (5:56) to take 28th place individually.
Following Messiah, Jefferson and Widener in the top-three spots were DeSales, King's (Pa.), Delaware Valley, PSU-Berks and Mercy County C.C.
The men return to action next Saturday, Sept. 9 as they host the Philadelphia Metropolitan Championships from the Belmont Plateau at 1 p.m.
