Renner Grinds Out 3 Doubles in 9-0 Win over Chestnut Hill on Senior Day
Philadelphia, PA- PhilaU freshman catcher Katie Renner (Berryville, VA/ Brunswick) led her Lady Rams (22-19, 13-11 CACC) with five RBIs in a 9-0 win over the Chestnut Hill College Griffins (4-38, 1-23 CACC) on Tuesday afternoon. Also, senior infielder Lindsay White (Fogelsville, PA/ Northwestern Lehigh) was honored during a Senior Day 2009 presentation.
The Lady Rams scored three runs in the first inning on two hits, as Renner knocked an RBI double and junior third baseman Kristin Giamatteo (Bellmore, NY/ Wellington Mepham) had an RBI single. Junior infielder Maggie Desmond (Bayport, NY/ St. John the Baptist) brought in the third run on a fielder's choice.
The second inning was more of the same for PhilaU, notching two more runs as Renner hit another double and freshman designated player Sara Romano (Harrisburg, PA/ Central Dauphin) brought in the other run.
In the sixth, Romano brought in White to make it 5-0 and Renner blasted her third double of the day to score three more runs and end the game early due to the mercy rule at 9-0.
PhilaU freshman hurler Amber Beauchemin (Galloway, NJ/ Absegami) had three strikeouts in three innings and sophomore Randi Wozniak (Newtown Sq., PA/ Marple Newtown).
The #6 seeded Lady Rams return to action at the double elimination CACC Softball Tournament on Thursday (4/30) at Georgian Court University for a 12 p.m. game vs. #3 seed Bloomfield College. The Lady Rams will play a second game, either at 4 p.m. if they win or 2 p.m. if they lose vs. Bloomfield.
