Softball Chalks Up Two Losses vs. Southern CT State in Florida
Clermont, FL- The Philadelphia University Lady Rams (0-2) opened their 2010 season in sunny Florida but dropped their first two games, falling 4-3 and then 6-1 to Southern Connecticut State University on Sunday morning.
Despite the losses, PhilaU racked up 15 hits on the day including three doubles.
In the first game, sophomore hurler Ali Schmidt (Cordova, MD/ Easton) notched seven strikeouts in five innings pitched- allowing just one run. Junior pitcher Randi Wozniak (Newtown Sq., PA/ Marple Newtown) came into the game in the sixth in relief and allowed three earned runs to put the game out of reach for the Lady Rams.
In the contest, seniors Kristen Giamatteo (Bellmore, NY/ Wllington Mepham), Kristyn Loughery (Phoenixville, PA/ Phoenixville) and Maggie Desmond (Bayport, NY/ St. John the Baptist) each had an RBI.
Game two featured PhilaU freshman pitcher Nicole
Singel’s (Exton, PA/ Downingtown East) collegiate
debut, as she went five innings and allowed five runs (just two
earned) and five hits. The Lady Ram’s lone run came on
an RBI single from sophomore infielder Katie
Renner (Berryville, VA/ Brunswick) in the first
inning.
PhilaU will try for their first ‘W’ tomorrow, when they
take on UMass-Lowell at 9:30 a.m. and 11:30 a.m.
