PhilaU Grabs First 2010 Win, Splits vs. UMass-Lowell

Clermont, FL- In just their second day outside, the Philadelphia University softball team (1-3) picked up their first win of the season with a 5-2 victory over the University of Massachusetts-Lowell River Hawks on Monday.  The Lady Rams dropped the second game 6-5 to the River Hawks. 

In the first contest, PhilaU sophomore pitcher Ali Schmidt (Cordova, MD/ Easton) went the distance in seven innings, allowing just one earned run and four hits en route to her first win in 2010.

Offensively, senior catcher/outfielder Maggie Desmond (Bayport, NY/ St. John) racked up two RBIs, while senior infielder Kristin Giamatteo (Bellmore, NY/ Wellington Mepham) and sophomore infielder Danielle Parisi (Teaneck, NJ/ WW-Plainsboro N.) added one RBI each.

Game two featured freshman pitcher Nicole Singel (Exton, PA/ Downingtown East) on the rubber, as she went 4 2/3 innings giving up three hits and two earned runs.  Fellow rookie hurler Alexandra Hultberg (Hampton Bays, NY/ Hampton Bays) came in for relief and allowed three runs (two earned), taking the loss.

Parisi notched four RBIs in the contest, while sophomore infielder Katie Renner (Berryville, VA/ Brunswick) accounted for the other PhilaU RBI. 

PhilaU returns to action on Tuesday (3/16) as they face Limestone College at 9:30 a.m. and then St. Michael’s College at 1:30 p.m.
