Softball Earns Day Four Split, 14-4 W over St. Mike’s & 6-5 Late Inning Loss to Franklin Pierce

Clermont, FL- The Philadelphia University Lady Rams (3-5) split in their final day of action in Florida, smoking St. Michael’s College (4-3) 14-4 and then falling in the seventh inning to Franklin Pierce University (5-7) 6-5 on Thursday afternoon.

Against SMC, senior pitcher Kelly Rauco (Nutley, NJ/ Nutley) picked up her first win of the season- allowing just three hits and one earned run.  The Lady Rams ended the contest early due to the fifth-inning mercy rule.

PhilaU smacked 13 hits in the game.

At the plate, senior third baseman Kristin Giamatteo (Bellmore, NY/ Wellington Mepham) racked up two RBIs while knocking out her first homer of the year.  Senior outfielder Maggie Desmond (Bayport, NY/ St. John) and sophomore catcher Katie Renner (Berryville, VA/ Brunswick) each tallied a double in the win.

The Lady Rams had less luck vs. FPU, as sophomore ace Ali Schmidt (Cordova, MD/ Easton) went just one inning in the circle and allowed one earned run.  Freshman pitcher Nicole Singel (Exton, PA/ Downingtown East) came in to relieve Schmidt, going 6 1/3 innings and allowing six earned runs while striking out five.

The Rams were leading up until the Ravens came from behind in the seventh inning.

Offensively PhilaU managed seven hits as Renner had another double along with two RBIs.  Senior outfielder Devyn O’Neill (Tinton Falls, NJ/ RBC), junior outfielder Jen Richard (Millstone Twp., NJ/ Allentown) and sophomore infielder Danielle Parisi (Teaneck, NJ/ WW-PN) all tallied one RBI.

PhilaU returns home and will face Felician College in their home-opener on Saturday (3/20) at 1:00 p.m.
