Lady Rams Softball Devours Felician in 9-1, 3-2 Sweep
Philadelphia, PA- The Philadelphia University Lady Rams (5-5, 2-0 CACC) didn’t wait long to get their first home wins of the season, sweeping the Felician College Falcons (4-5, 0-2 CACC) at home on Saturday afternoon. PhilaU won 9-1 in five innings in the first game and clinched the late game 3-2.
PhilaU sophomore hurler Ali Schmidt (Cordova, MD/ Easton) tallied 12 strikeouts to lead the Lady Rams to the mercy-rule win in game one.
The Lady Rams racked up eight runs in the third inning to put the Falcons away in the, keyed by a three-run shot from senior infielder Maggie Desmond (Bayport, NY/ St. John) and a two-run round-tripper from her sister junior outfielder Kate Desmond (Bayport, NY/ St. John).
Sophomore catcher Katie Renner (Berryville, VA/ Brunswick) went 2-3 in the contest with a triple.
In game two, PhilaU took an early 1-0 lead in the first inning on an RBI single from Renner. The Lady Rams tacked on two more to take a 3-0 lead in the third on a double from senior third baseman Kristen Giamatteo (Bellmore, NY/ Wellington Mepham).
FC brought in two runs in the fifth on a single from Grace Keller to cut the PhilaU lead to just one (3-2), but the Lady Rams hung on for the victory.
Senior pitcher/infielder Kelly Rauco (Nutley, NJ/ Nutley) got the win on the rubber for PhilaU.
The Lady Ram squad returns to action on Monday (3/22) when they host Chestnut Hill College at 2:30 p.m. for a doubleheader.
