Lady Rams Blast Bloomfield 3-1, 9-1 in CACC Twin Bill
Philadelphia, PA- The Philadelphia University softball team (15-13, 7-5 CACC) picked up two wins over the Bloomfield College Cougars (10-17, 6-8 CACC) on Wednesday afternoon. PhilaU won the first game 3-1 and followed up with a mercy-rule 9-1 five inning victory in the second game of the day.
In the early game, PhilaU sophomore ace Ali Schmidt (Cordova, MD/ Easton) racked up 13 strikeouts and allowed just four hits in a 3-1 win. In that contest, sophomore catcher Katie Renner (Berryville, VA/ Brunswick) singled in the eventual game-winning RBI in the third inning. On the day, Renner went 2-7 with three RBIs. PhilaU designated hitter Danielle Parisi (Teaneck, NJ/ WW Plainsboro N.) also had a solid outing, going 2-3 with a double and an RBI.
Game two featured 11 PhilaU hits as the team mounted an early 3-0 lead after the third inning and never turned back. Offensively, Giamatteo added two more RBIs in the contest and senior infielder Maggie Desmond (Bayport, NY/ St. John) went 3-3 with two RBIs and two hits. Junior outfielder Jen Richard (Millstone, NJ/ Allentown) also had herself a game going 2-2 with two runs, two RBIs and a walk.
PhilaU’s Schmidt got the win in that game as well, while BC’s Brianne Moore took both losses for the Cougs.
The PhilaU ladies face a five-game road stand over the next two weeks, beginning with a CACC double-header tomorrow (4/15) at Goldey-Beacom College at 3:00 p.m.
