Concordia Defeats PhilaU Softball 3-2, 7-1
Philadelphia, PA- The Philadelphia University softball team (9-9, 4-4 CACC) fell in two games to the Concordia College Clippers (6-9, 3-3 CACC) on Saturday afternoon. The Lady Rams fell 3-2 in the first game and dropped game two 7-1.
Junior outfielder Kate Desmond (Bayport, NY/ St. John) led the squad offensively with a solo homer in game one and sophomore pitcher Ali Schmidt (Cordova, MD/ Easton) racked up 12 strikeouts in that game.
In the first game, Concordia scored two runs in the first inning on a walk and hit by pitch. K. Desmond made it 2-1 in the second with her solo homer and scored another run to even it at 2-2 in the fourth. CC scored the winning run in the fifth inning on an RBI single from Victoria Pisciotta.
Schmidt got the loss, just her second this season as she went seven innings with 12 strikeouts. CC’s Alex Rosella gave up two earned runs in seven innings for the Clippers.
In game two, the Lady Rams scored their only run in the final inning on a K. Desmond RBI single. The Clippers notched three runs each in the first and second innings and one in the seventh- just one was earned.
PhilaU sophomore Randi Wozniak (Newtown Sq., PA/ Marple Newtown) took the loss in four innings pitched, giving up just one earned run, while freshman Nicole Singel (Exton, PA/ Downingtown East) went three innings and gave up one unearned run. CC’s Jillian Maselli picked up the win in seven innings, letting up one earned run.
The Lady Rams return to action on Monday (4/5) vs. Bloomsburg University at 2:30 p.m. at home.
