Softball Splits with Holy Family at Home

Philadelphia, PA- Philadelphia University Lady Rams (10-12, 5-6 CACC) split a doubleheader with the Holy Family University Lady Tigers (13-16, 8-5 CACC) on Wednesday afternoon.  The Lady Rams won the first game 2-1 in eight innings, while HFU got the victory in game two 5-1. 

In game one, the Lady Rams put their first run up in the second inning as sophomore designated hitter Danielle Parisi smacked a long ball to center field to score senior infielder Kristen Giamatteo (Bellmore, NY/ Wellington Mepham).  HFU tied it at 1-1 on an RBI single from designated hitter Cassandra Black in the fourth.

PhilaU had a chance to add cushioning in the bottom of the fourth inning with bases loaded, but the home squad left three on base to end the inning on a foul pop-up to the HFU catcher.

In extra innings, sophomore designated player Sara Romano (Harrisburg, PA/ Central Dauphin) got the winning hit in the eighth to score Giamatteo for a 2-1 victory. 

Sophomore pitcher Ali Schmidt (Cordova, MD/ Easton) picked up nine strikeouts in the win, while HFU’s Jody Searfoss sent 13 packing for the Lady Tigers. 

In the second game of the day, PhilaU’s Romano once again ripped an RBI single- this time in the first inning to give the Lady Rams an early 1-0 lead.  In the fifth, the Lady Tigers scored four runs on five hits to go up 4-1, helped by a two-run triple from Deanna Myers. 

HFU added a run in the seventh on a single from Myers, who scored Danielle McDevitt who reached on a triple down the right field line to go up 5-1, the final score.

PhilaU freshman pitcher Nicole Singel (Exton, PA/ Downingtown East) went 4.1 innings and allowed four runs while junior hurler Randi Wozniak (Newtown Sq., PA/ Marple Newtown) went 2.2 innings and allowed one run, while HFU’s Angela DiBeneditto threw a complete game, with two strikeouts. 

The Lady Rams waste no time as they return to the diamond tomorrow (4/8) for a home doubleheader vs. East Stroudsburg University at 2:30 p.m.
