2010 Softball Recap
Commandeered by Head Coach John Kelly, the Philadelphia University softball team strung together their second-straight 20+ win season in 2010.
Finishing with an overall record of 26-20 (18-8 CACC), the Lady Rams earned a #5 seed in the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Tournament but fell in the first day of competition with an 11 inning loss to Holy Family and then a 7-2 loss in the elimination game to the University of the Sciences-Philadelphia.
Despite the team’s early post-season exit, PhilaU has much to look forward to in 2010-11 with the return of CACC All-Conference 1st Team sophomore pitcher Ali Schmidt, among others. Schmidt threw the program’s first-ever “perfect game” at Chestnut Hill College (4/20/10) in a 10-0, five inning mercy-rule win. The Cordova, MD native then did it again just four days later at home vs. Nyack in an 8-0 mercy-rule victory. She finished the year with a 1.89 ERA and an 18-9 record on the rubber, while striking out 225 opposing batters.
Sophomore catcher Katie Renner was named to the CACC All-Tournament Team, while also earning CACC All-Conference 2nd Team honors with a team second-best .338 batting average in 42 games.
PhilaU junior outfielder Jen Richard was named to the CACC All-Conference ‘Honorable Mention’ team after batting .302 on the season with a team-high 32 runs scored. She added a team-best four triples and went 8-10 in stolen base attempts.
Sophomore designated player Danielle Parisi ended the year with a team-high .339 batting average as she racked up 29 RBIs and 41 hits in 38 games played.
