Softball Ends Regular Season with 6-2, 13-6 Sweep at Post
Philadelphia, PA- The Philadelphia University softball Team (26-16, 18-6 CACC) ended the regular season on a high note Sunday afternoon, beating Post University (16-28, 12-14 CACC) twice, 6-2 in nine innings and 13-6. The Lady Rams clinch a #5 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Tournament seed with the victories, and will face #4 Holy Family University on Thursday at noon, hosted by Georgian Court University in the double elimination event.
The Lady Rams pitching staff got wins from sophomore Ali Schmidt (Cordova, MD/ Easton) in game one and freshman Nicole Singel (Exton, PA/ Downingtown East) in the second contest.
The first game of the day was a thriller, as PhilaU and Post traded runs in the first and third innings, locked at 2-2. The Lady Rams battled through a scoreless eighth and then rallied in the ninth on RBI doubles from senior infielder Maggie Desmond (Bayport, NY/ St. Johns) and sophomore infielder Danielle Parisi (Teaneck, NJ/ W. Windsor-Plainsboro North). The visitors then added two more runs and Schmidt-who went all nine innings and compiled seven strikeouts, sent three batters packing to hold on for a 6-2 victory.
PhilaU senior third baseman Kristin Giamatteo (Bellmore, NY/ Wellington Mepham) added a solo homer in the third inning for PhilaU.
In game two, Post strung together an early 4-1 lead after three innings, as a Parisi triple gave PhilaU their first run. In the next two innings, PhilaU tallied eight runs on seven hits, including sophomore outfielder Sara Romano’s (Harrisburg, PA/ Central Dauphin) two-run blast in the fifth, giving the Lady Rams a 9-4 lead.
Post would add two more to their line in the contest, but the Lady Rams continued to stay hot offensively, adding four runs in the final two innings including two RBIs from sophomore catcher Katie Renner (Berryville, VA/ Brunswick).
