Softball Ends 26 Win Season at CACC Playoffs
Lakewood, NJ- The #5 Philadelphia University Lady Rams (26-20, 18-8 CACC) ended their season with two losses in the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Playoffs on Thursday afternoon at Georgian Court University. The Lady Rams fell 3-2 in 11 innings to #4 Holy Family University and then dropped a 7-2 loss to #8 seeded the University of the Sciences to end their run.
PhilaU sophomore pitcher Ali Schmidt (Cordova, MD/ Easton) had 11 strikeouts in 12 innings through two games. PhilaU junior pitcher Randi Wozniak went 4.2 innings in game two while freshman hurler Nicole Singel went .1 innings in the second game.
In the first game vs. HFU, PhilaU was down 1-0 in the sixth inning but strung together a two-out rally to score two runs on RBI hits from sophomore infielder Katie Renner (Berryville, VA/ Brunswick) and sophomore outfielder Sara Romano (Harrisburg, PA/ Central Dauphin) to go up 2-1.
However, a solo homer from HFU’s Angela DiBeneditto in the sixth would lock it at 2-2. The teams battled through five scoreless innings until HFU’s Deanna Myers hit a walk-off round-tripper to end the game on the spot in the 11th inning, to give the Lady Rams a 3-2 loss.
Against #8 the University of the Sciences (a 6-1 loser to #1 Dominican), the Lady Rams fell into a 3-0 hole in the first inning but sparked a two-run second inning on RBIs from senior outfielder Kristyn Loughery (Phoenixville, PA/ Phoenixville) and Romano to make it 3-2.
USP rallied to add four more runs in the fifth on four hits to take a 7-2 lead and eventually the game.
