Lady Rams Look to Continue Progress in 2010 Season

 Philadelphia, PA- The Philadelphia University Lady Rams softball team kicks off action for the 2010 season at West Chester on March 2nd at 12:00 p.m.  They are coming back from their first seed (#6) in the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Championship, where they knocked off #1 Dominican College and went 2-2 in the tournament.  The team went 25-21, 13-11 in the CACC last season. 

Coach John Kelly enters his fifth season coaching the Lady Rams after recording the most wins in a season (25) for the softball team last season.

"Our goals for the season are to build on what we accomplished last season," said Kelly.

The Lady Rams are returning key players including senior captain and first basemen Kelly Rauco who batted .232 and average .984 from the field.  Returning outfielder Kristyn Loughery had a (.262 b/avg and .933 f/avg) in 2009.  Senior third basemen Kristin Giamatteo had a .313 b/avg at the plate with 22 RBIs, 10 doubles and 19 runs. 

Impact players and last season co-MVPs Katie Renner and Ali Schmidt return this season.  CACC All-Tournament Team selection Ali Schmidt was 19-10 from the mound (281 strikeouts/2.11 ERA).  Renner, catcher and third base, averages were (.324 b/avg and .981 f/avg) with 24 runs and 27 RBIs.

The team also looks to build their season with six incoming freshman that have been added.
