Philadelphia, PA- In a wet non-conference match-up, the Philadelphia University softball team (12-17, 6-10 CACC) dropped a non-conference game 4-3 to the West Chester University Golden Rams (25-16, 6-6 PSAC) on Wednesday afternoon.
The game was called with the bases loaded for PhilaU in the bottom of the seventh with just one out and designated hitter Ali Schmidt at bat due to rainy conditions.
PhilaU trailed 3-0 halfway through the fourth as WCU put up a run in the previous innings, including a solo homer from catcher Nicole Cruts. The Rams responded with a run in the bottom of the fourth on first baseman Nicole Singel's RBI single to right field.
In the fifth PhilaU would put up two more as junior second baseman Danielle Parisi smacked a two RBI two-bagger to score junior third baseman Katie Renner and senior centerfielder Jen Richard. WCU added their final run in the top of the sixth on an RBI double.
PhilaU freshman pitcher Ally Vrcek (2-6) took the loss while WCU's Devon Utterback (12-5) secured the win.
The Rams stay home to host Post University on Saturday (4/16) in a CACC doubleheader, slated for a 12 p.m. start. The game is also Senior Day which will honor senior outfielder Jen Richard.
