Softball Rallies Late to Beat USci 4-2
Philadelphia, PA- The Philadelphia University Rams (14-17, 8-10 CACC) pieced together a sixth inning rally to beat the University of the Sciences (7-27, 5-15 CACC) on Monday afternoon.
Scoreless through the first two innings, in the bottom of the third PhilaU went up 1-0 on junior catcher Katie Renner's single to left-field and an ensuing left-fielder error that brought in senior centerfielder Jen Richard (who had reached on her own single) on the same play.
In the top of the sixth, USci clawed back with two runs on three hits to lead 2-1. In the bottom of the same inning with bases loaded, rookie left-fielder Devin Griglik put the ball into play, which glanced off the pitcher's glove to score junior right-fielder Allison Glaser and tie it at 2's. Renner smacked a two-run double to give the Rams the game winning-hit and end it with a 4-2 victory.
PhilaU junior hurler Ali Schmidt racked up 11 strikeouts to improve to 11-9 overall, while USci's Julie Shaw went to 2-11 on the year.
