2011 All-CACC Softball Team Announced
NEW HAVEN, Conn. (May 3, 2011) – Rachel Ruch of Georgian Court University has been tabbed the 2011 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Softball Player of the Year in balloting released by the conference office. Wilmington University's Katie Warrington was named Pitcher of the Year, while Bloomfield College's Angie Yoshizu claimed Rookie of the Year honors. Concordia College's Kathy Laoutaris was voted Coach of the Year and Chestnut Hill College was given the annual Team Sportsmanship Award. The 14 head coaches conducted the voting for the All-Conference awards.
Ruch, a junior 2B from Edison, NJ, reached the 200-hit plateau with two hits in a 7-4 victory at Goldey-Beacom on April 27. The 2009 CACC Rookie of the Year is a three-time CACC First Team selection and is a career .383 hitter with 22 home runs. This year, Ruch leads the first place Lions with a .350 batting average. She ranks third in the conference with 33 RBI, tied for fourth with four home runs, first with 92 total bases, 15 doubles and 45 runs scored and third with five triples. She has also stolen the second-most bases with 15.
Warrington, a sophomore from Townsend, DE, leads the CACC in ERA, strikeouts per seven innings, fewest hits per seven innings, opponent batting average and strikeouts. She also ranks second in shutouts. The three-time CACC Pitcher of the Week ranks eighth in the NCAA in strikeouts per seven innings, fourth in ERA and seventh in fewest hits per seven innings. She posted a 15-7 record, and lost by a 1-0 score three times. She has given up just 11 extra base hits in 146.1 innings and opponents are hitting .154 off her. The transfer from Liberty University set Wilmington single-season records for strikeouts, strikeouts per 7 innings, ERA and shutouts.
Yoshizu, a freshman shortstop from Kaneohe, HI, has helped lead a potent Bloomfield offense this season by hitting .388 in her first collegiate season with 21 runs scored, 11 runs batted in and 14 steals. She started every game for the Deacons and committed only seven errors. Yoshizu was a second team All-CACC selection in addition to her rookie honor.
Laoutaris has been the head coach for Concordia for 18 years and led the Clippers to a 23-12 overall record thus far in 2011 to go with an 18-6 conference mark. This is her second 20-win season with the team. She led Concordia to its first appearance in the CACC Tournament last season, and the team will return this year. Laoutaris is a Concordia graduate and was a member of the softball team.
