Lady Rams drop non-conference doubleheader to Bloomsburg

BLOOMSBURG, Pa. – The Philadelphia University softball team was swept by host Bloomsburg in a non-conference doubleheader Friday afternoon on Hutchinson Field. The game scores were 6-0 and 5-4.

In the nightcap, the Lady Rams (5-16) fell behind 2-0 in the bottom of the first inning, which included a RBI triple by Bloomsburg (18-6) catcher Sam Pientack.

Philadelphia rallied to take the lead with a three-run third inning. Pitcher Samantha Abromavage helped her own cause with a two-run single and right fielder Samantha Riabko recorded a RBI base hit in the frame.

An error helped the Lady Rams tack on the fourth run in the fourth. First baseman Kacie DeMaio started the inning off with a base hit and advanced to third on a pair of wild pitches. She would score on a Huskie miscue on a ball hit by catcher Katie Renner.

After getting a pair of RBI hits to tie the game in the bottom of the fourth, the Huskies scored the eventual winning run on a passed ball in the fifth.

Center fielder Allison Glaser and Riabko had a pair of hits for the Lady Rams, who had nine in the game. Bloomsburg's right fielder Kayla McHale and Pientack recorded three hits each.

Pitcher Mandi Black earned the win after hurling four innings of four-hit relief and allowed just an unearned run. Abromavage suffered the loss after giving up four earned hits on 11 hits and fanning two.

Huskies pitcher Cait Paine was the star as she struck out 16 hitters and surrendered just two hits.

Philadelphia second baseman Meaghan Lewis and left fielder Emma Haley had one hit a piece.

First baseman Rachel Fredell went 2-for-3 with a pair of RBIs to lead Bloomsburg. Left fielder Erika Yanora, center fielder Raychelle Kuhns and Pientack all added two hits.

Kaitlin MacQueen took the loss as she gave up five earned runs on 10 hits and struck out one.
