PhilaU Softball Coach John Kelly Resigns

Philadelphia, PA- Six-year Philadelphia University Head Softball Coach John Kelly has resigned, announced PhilaU Athletic Director Tom Shirley on Tuesday.

“We appreciate all the years Coach Kelly has given to the softball program,” said Shirley.  “He has turned PhilaU softball into a playoff-caliber team and I want to thank him for all he has done for the Athletic Department.”

Coach Kelly leaves PhilaU after breaking 100 total wins this season with the Rams.  He finished his PhilaU tenure with a 101-154 record, 66-78 in the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC).  Coach Kelly had his best season at PhilaU in 2009-10, as he led the Rams to a 26-20 overall record, the most wins in a season while he served as head coach.  In 2008-09 his squad set a new (then) wins record at 25-21, and punched the program’s first-ever ticket to the CACC Tournament, where as a #6 seed the Rams knocked out #1 seed Dominican College.

Over the past six seasons, Coach Kelly had eight players named to the CACC All-Conference teams, and three selected to the CACC All-Tournament teams.  In the classroom, his teams averaged an impressive 3.28 GPA over six years.

A search for a new head softball coach will begin immediately.  For more information please contact PhilaU Assistant Athletic Director Sarah Punderson
