NEWARK, Del. – Philadelphia University sophomore right fielder/pitcher Naomi Stas (Tuckerton, N.J./Pinelands Regional) earned a place on the 2017 Division II Conference Commissioner Association (CCA) All-East Region Softball First Team at the utility/pitcher position Monday.
An All-Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) first-team selection this season, Stas is the program's first all-region player since 2014 when Samantha Riabko was named to the Daktronics Division II All-East Region Softball second team.
With her selection to the first team, Stas will move to the national ballot for All-America consideration.
Stas had a great season in the pitching circle for the Rams as she went 13-8 and posted the CACC's best earned run average of 1.61. She had 18 complete games and six shutouts, which both ranked second in the conference. Stas added 95 strikeouts in 160.2 innings of work. She finished third in opponent batting average (.217), fourth in innings pitched, and seventh in strikeouts.
The 13 victories are the most by a Ram since Ali Schmidt won 14 games in 2011.
On March 12, Stas threw the fourth in no-hitter in program history to help the Rams defeat 19th-ranked University of Indianapolis 3-0.
At the plate, Stas was Philadelphia's top hitter as she led the team in batting average (.333), slugging percentage (.455), hits (63), RBI (27), runs scored (21), total bases (86), and home runs (4). She was fourth in the CACC in hits and seventh in total bases. Stas recorded the 100th hit of her career on May 7 of this year with a RBI single against Caldwell in the CACC Tournament championship game.
Philadelphia finished the 2017 season with a 25-28 overall recorded. The Rams went 13-11 against the CACC and reached the final of the CACC Tournament.
