Lady Rams Earn 10th Win as Webster Joins 1,000-Pt. Club

Senior forward Ashley Webster (Philadelphia, Pa./Cheltenham) scored 11 points -- including the 1,000th of her career -- while adding 11 rebounds in leading Philadelphia University to a 77-49 win over Concordia College in women's basketball action Monday night at the Gallagher Center.  The game was paused at the 9:57 mark of the opening period, allowing Head Coach Tom Shirley the chance to present Webster a ball commemorating her entry into the milestone 1,000-point club, becoming just the 23rd women's player in school history to reach the plateau.

Lady Rams' sophomore center Jessica Romano (Horsham, Pa./Hatboro-Horsham) led all scorers with 20 points and 12 boards while junior guard Amanda Brennan (Stratford, N.J./Sterling) tied her career-high with 19 points for Philadelphia University, which improves to 10-6 overall with the victory.  The visiting Clippers, who fall to 0-15 with the setback, were paced by sophomore forward Dana Rommel (Staten Island, N.Y./St. Joseph-the-Sea), who tallied 12 points to go along with four boards and three steals.

Turnovers, steals and assists were plus factors for Philadelphia University in the game, with the Lady Rams notching 17 steals in the process of forcing 28 Concordia miscues.  In addition, Philadelphia finished the game with an 18-9 edge in assists.

The contest started evenly, as the teams remained tied 10-10 with 15:22 left in the opening period.  But Philadelphia University quickly established a commanding lead after going on a 17-0 run to make the score 27-10 at the 9:23 mark of the first half.  The advantage extended to 28 after Amanda Brennan scored seven straight points for the Lady Rams to put them up 51-23 with two minutes remaining before the Clippers scored the final four points of the half as Philadelphia led 51-27 at intermission.

The second frame saw the Lady Rams remain out in front, and they would take their largest lead of the night when reserve guard Martha Lupinski (Haddonfield, N.J./Haddonfield Memorial) knocked down the second of her trio of three-point field goals with 8:43 left in the game, putting Philadelphia ahead 70-36.  Lupinski scored her career-high nine points in 13 minutes of action to go along with four steals, two rebounds and an assist.

Next for Coach Shirley's squad will be a conference matchup this Saturday afternoon, January 26, 2008 in Waterbury, Conn. as Philadelphia University meets CACC North Division member Post University.  Tip-off is slated for 1:00 p.m. as the front end of the women's-men's doubleheader between the Rams and the homestanding Eagles.
