Webster and Romano Seize Regional All-America Honors

Philadelphia University senior forward Ashley Webster (Philadelphia, Pa./Cheltenham) and sophomore center Jessica Romano (Horhsam, Pa./Hatboro-Horsham) have been named to the Daktronics NCAA Division II Women's Basketball All-Northeast Region second team for their performance during the 2007-'08 season. The announcement was made today after voting was conducted and tabulated by Sports Information Directors throughout the Northeast Corridor.
These are the first regional honors for either player, after both were named to the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) All-Conference team in late February, with Romano garnering first-team honors while Webster collected second-team accolades.
"Jess and Ashley are two of the frontcourt greats in the
history of our program," said Head Coach and Director of Athletics
Tom Shirley. "As a senior, Ashley has
already established herself in the Philadelphia
University annals as one of our best all-around players
ever, and I'm confident that Jess will be right there with
her. Fortunately for us, she (Jess) still has two years
left to play in a Lady Rams uniform. While we will
be sad to see Ashley depart after graduation, she has left a
profound impact on this team, both on and off the
court. And I'm confident that Jess can pick up the torch and
continue the legacy that will be left behind by her fellow
co-captain."
Webster (pictured above) and Romano (shown at left) led the
Lady Rams to a 19-9 record this season, including 12-6 in CACC
regular-season play. Webster led the CACC in rebounds (10.4
rpg) and she also stood fourth in points (15.6 ppg), eighth in
field-goal percentage (.472), fifth in free-throw percentage (.811)
and seventh in steals (1.93 spg). Romano stood second in the CACC
in scoring with 17.6 ppg, third with 9.9 rpg and 11th with
45.7-percent accuracy from the field.
There is still time to catch the Northeast Regional All-Americans
in action at The Gallagher Center, as the Lady Rams
will host the Eastern College Athletic Conference
(ECAC) Women's Basketball Tournament this weekend.
Philadelphia University takes on Caldwell College in a
semifinal-round game at 5:00 p.m. on Friday, March 14. Click here for a complete rundown of the ECAC
