Lady Rams Win Third Straight, Go Above .500 in CACC Play

Senior forward Ashley Webster (Philadelphia, Pa./Cheltenham; pictured) registered her tenth double-double of the season with 17 points and 14 rebounds, leading Philadelphia University to a 65-58 win over Goldey-Beacom College on Tuesday night at home in women's basketball action.  The win, the third straight for the Lady Rams, improves them to 12-6 overall and 5-4 in the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) while the Lightning fall to 6-12 overall and 4-6 in conference play.

Sophomore center Jessica Romano (Horsham, Pa./Hatboro-Horsham) added 18 points and eight rebounds for Philadelphia University while junior guard Amanda Brennan (Stratford, N.J./Sterling) finished with 16 points including four three-point field goals.  Goldey-Beacom was paced by senior guard/forward Toni Jones (Lewes, Del./Sussex Tech), the CACC's leading scorer, who poured in a game-high 26 points to go along with seven rebounds and three steals.

The victory in tonight's game represents the 400th for Head Coach Tom Shirley in his 19-year tenure at Philadelphia University.  For his 27-year career as a collegiate head coach, Shirley stands at 549-242 (.694), which is fourth among active NCAA Division II coaches.

Next up for the Lady Rams is a road game at CACC South Divison-rival Wilmington University this Saturday, February 2 at 1:00 p.m. in New Castle, Del.  Philadelphia University looks to avenge an 83-71 loss to the Wildcats back on December 21, 2007 and in the process deliver Coach Shirley his 550th career triumph.
