Romano's Double-Double Leads Lady Rams to First CACC Win

Sophomore center Jessica Romano registered a
double-double with 21 points and ten rebounds, helping Philadelphia
University snap a two-game losing streak with a 77-38 victory over Nyack College on Saturday
afternoon at home. The win improves the Lady Rams to 4-3
overall including a 1-1 mark in the Central Atlantic Collegiate
Conference (CACC), while the Warriors fall to 2-5 overall and 1-2
in league play.
Nyack jumped out to a quick 7-2 advantage in the contest, but Head
Coach Tom Shirley's team went on a 16-2 run for an
18-9 lead, scoring on six of seven possessions during the
stretch. The Lady Rams, using a full-court trapping defense,
kept the pressure on the Warriors, eventually taking a 38-16 lead
into the half. In the second half, the Lady Rams scored 18 of
the first 22 points to extend the margin to 34 points at
56-22. This run was fueled by senior forward Ashley
Webster and junior guard Amanda Brennan,
who scored four points apiece and from there, Philadelphia
University never looked back.
In addition to Romano's output, sophomore point guard Nina
Brascetta scored nine points and distributed six assists,
while sophomore forward Kate Brennan netted 10
points and pulled down nine boards. Amanda Brennan finished
with 14 points, and Webster closed the contest
with 13 points and seven rebounds. The Warriors were
paced by sophomore guard Christy Porter, who
collected seven points and six rebounds.
The Lady Rams return to action in a non-conference game next Saturday, December 15, 2007 at Molloy College in Rockville Centre, N.Y. The contest with the Lady Lions tips off at 1:00 p.m.
