Amanda Brennan Free Throws Lead Lady Rams to Road Victory

Junior guard Amanda Brennan hit a pair of free throws with 15.6 seconds remaining, leading the Philadelphia University women's basketball team to a thrilling 73-71 win at the University of the Sciences on Tuesday night. With the win, Head Coach Tom Shirley's team improves to 16-8 overall including a 9-6 mark in the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC).
Brennan, who finished with 16 points, was one of three Lady Rams
to find double-figure scoring, joining senior forward Ashley
Webster (21 points) and sophomore center Jessica Romano (20
points). The Devils, who fall to 13-13 overall and 10-7 in
the CACC with the loss, were led by freshman Alyssa Hamm with 15
points.
In the opening 20 minutes of play, neither team was able to seize
control with the Lady Rams holding the biggest margin of seven
points on two occasions. Shirley's team settled for a
five-point lead at the half, 34-29, as freshman forward Ashley
Gaskins connected on a jumper with 46 seconds left to close the
half.
In the second frame, Shirley's team quickly pushed the advantage to
double digits on a layup by Webster at the 19:03 mark. The
lead swelled to 13 points with 12 minutes left to play when Brennan
connected on a jumper, one of her six field goals in the
contest. From there, however, the Devils began to chip away
and despite leading by seven points, 69-62 with 1:54 left, the Lady
Rams saw the hosts tie the contest at 71-71 with 19 seconds
remaining. This set up Brennan's heroics as she converted
both free throws just seconds later and Shirley's team saw the
Devils misfire three times in the closing seconds, securing the win
for Philadelphia University.
The Lady Rams, winners of three straight, will be back at home on
Thursday, February 21st, hosting league foe Georgian Court
University in a key league battle that kicks off a two-game
homestand for Philadelphia University. Tip-off with the Lions
is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. at the Gallagher Center.
