Lady Rams Fend Off Sciences in 60-54 Road Win
Philadelphia, PA- The Philadelphia University women's basketball team (8-5, 3-1 CACC) grabbed a 60-54 victory at the University of the Sciences (4-6, 1-2 CACC) on Thursday evening. Junior center Jess Romano (Horsham, PA/ Hatboro-Horsham) had 16 points to lead PhilaU.
The Lady Rams shot 55% from the field in the first half, helped by junior guard Kate Brennan's (Sterling, NJ/ Stratford) 10 first half points- including two treys. Brennan's older sister Amanda Brennan (Sterling, NJ/ Stratford) also nailed two treys in the first stanza, and finished with eight points on the night.
USP went on a 9-1 run midway through the second half as the Lady Rams held a slim 51-49 lead at 5:23. A Lady Devil turnover on the ensuing play gave Romano the chance for a quick layup, followed by a made foul shot from sophomore guard Steph Agger (N. Cape May, NJ/ Lower Cape May) to pull ahead 54-49. Agger had 14 points on the night.
With just one minute remaining, USP's Melissa Rotz hit a three to cut the Phila lead to 56-54. The Lady Rams responded with a jumper from junior guard Taylor Magnus (Plymouth, PA/ Plymouth-Whitemarsh) and A. Brennan iced two free-throws to give PhilaU a 60-54 win.
The Lady Devils were led by with Erin Chesnavich with 13 points.
Next on the agenda for PhilaU will be a 1 p.m. CACC contest on Saturday, January 10th as they travel to Caldwell.
