NEW HAVEN, CT (October 31, 2008) - The Philadelphia University women's basketball team has been chosen to finish second in the CACC's South Division, as the 2008-09 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Women's Basketball Preseason Poll was released today. The 13 head coaches conducted the voting.
Both Dominican and Holy Family were chosen to win their respective divisions for the second consecutive season- both won regular-season division championships last season en route to facing each other in the CACC Tournament Championship game. Holy Family took the title. The Tigers have won three of the last four CACC Tournament Championships.
The Lady Rams were picked second in the South Division with 71 points and return first team All-CACC selection junior center Jessica Romano. Romano averaged 17.8 points and 10.0 rebounds per-game last season to rank second and third, respectively, in the CACC. The Lady Rams return five players who started at least 15 games a year ago. The remainder of the poll for the South Division is rounded out by Wilmington (62 points), USP (60), Goldey-Beacom (36), Georgian Court (29) and Chestnut Hill (15).
