Lady Rams Advance to CACC Semifinals in 72-51 Win Over USP

Philadelphia, PA- The #2 seeded Philadelphia University women's basketball team (19-9, 13-5 CACC) advanced to the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) semifinals in a 72-51 quarterfinal victory over the visiting #3 University of the Sciences (15-13, 12-6 CACC) at the Gallagher Athletic Center on Tuesday evening.  Junior forward Kate Brennan (Stratford, NJ/ Sterling) led all scorers with 17 points, five rebounds and three steals.

The #2S PhilaU Lady Rams will face #2N Bloomfield College Lady Deacons on Friday, March 6th at 2:00 PM in the Gallagher Athletic Center in the first of two CACC women's basketball semifinal matchups.  Bloomfield was a 61-50 winner over #3N Caldwell on Tuesday night. 

In the first half the Lady Rams dashed out to an 11-0 lead, but the USP Lady Devils went on a 9-2 run to get within four (13-9) at 14:51.  PhilaU senior guard Amanda Brennan (Stratford, NJ/ Sterling) nailed two consecutive three-balls to keep the Lady Rams up 23-14.  A. Brennan had 12 points (3-8 from beyond the arc) in the game. 

USP's Erin Chesnavich cut the PhilaU lead to just one with a jumper at 4:20, but the Lady Rams stayed ahead 33-30 at the break.

The Lady Rams rolled in the second half, going on a 9-0 spurt midway through the stanza to lead 55-39.  Two made free-throws by USP's Alyssa Hamm would put the visitors within 12, but that would be as close as they could get.  PhilaU sophomore guard Stephanie Agger (N. Cape May, NJ/ Lower Cape May) had 12 points, three rebounds and a career-high eight assists on the night.   

PhilaU junior center Jess Romano (Horsham, PA/ Hatboro-Horsham) sunk two free-throws at 1:27 to seal the Lady Devil's fate.  Romano had 16 points and a game-high 10 boards in the win.  The Lady Rams finished off USP 72-51 at the final buzzer.
