PhilaU Women to Face #1 Franklin Pierce in NCAA Northeast Regional

Philadelphia, PA- The Philadelphia University women's basketball team (21-9, 13-5 CACC) has been selected as the #8 seed in the NCAA Division II Women's Basketball Northeast Regional Tournament.  The team will face the #1 seeded Franklin Pierce Ravens (24-5, 18-4 NE10) on Friday, March 13th at 1:00 p.m., held at Holy Family University's Campus Center in Philadelphia, PA.  Complete tournament information can be found here.

Tickets: $8 for adults, $5 for senior citizens and $3 for students with valid ID

The Lady Rams will be making their sixth NCAA postseason appearance in head coach Tom Shirley's era (the first time being the 1992-93 season), after earning an automatic bid from the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC).  PhilaU won the CACC championship outright with a 72-63 win over Wilmington University. 

"This is the first time since our team has joined the CACC that we've accomplished our goals each season of winning 20 games and the conference title," said Shirley. "The opportunity to be at NCAA Regionals and to win an NCAA championship will have a positive effect on both campus enthusiasm and recruiting, so we're excited about that." 

Second-seeded and # 25-ranked Holy Family University (25-5, 18-0 CACC) will serve as host of the East Regional for the second-straight year in the Philadelphia, Pa., suburbs. Game times for the eight-team regional which will run Friday and Saturday, with the regional championship next Monday night (March 16). 

The winner of this year's East Regional will advance to the NCAA Division II Championships in San Antonio, Texas, hosted by Saint Mary's University, March 24-27, at Bill Greehey Arena.
