Lady Rams Fall 81-55 to #22 Holy Family
Philadelphia, PA- The Philadelphia University Lady Rams (6-8, 4-2 CACC) were outmatched in an 81-55 loss to the #22 nationally ranked Holy Family University Tigers (14-1, 7-0 CACC) on Thursday night at the Gallagher Athletic Center.
HFU outshot PhilaU (57%-30%) from field goal range, while PhilaU took the lead on three's (53%-33%).
A bright spot for PhilaU was senior forward Kate Brennan (Stratford, NJ/ Sterling) who led all players with a game-high 18 points.
The Lady Rams kept it close to start things off, taking a 7-5 lead off a Brennan bucket at 14:41, but the Tigers shredded any hopes of a close contest with a 21-0 run over the next seven minutes to edge ahead 32-11 on a jumper from Christine McCollum. McCollum finished with 12 points, seven boards and two blocks for HFU.
PhilaU pieced together a 7-2 run to complete the remainder of the first half, including two free-throws from sophomore Christine Wooding (Northfield, NJ/ Mainland)- who finished with seven points and two blocks.
At the half, the Tigers led 34-18.
PhilaU's Brennan opened the second half with one of her four treys, and senior center Jessica Romano (Horsham, PA/ Hatboro-Horsham) laid in two buckets of her own but the Lady Rams couldn't get any closer than the 17 point deficit (40-23). Romano, the Lady Rams' leading scorer, was held to just four points and three rebounds on the night.
HFU's Erin Mann hit seven straight points from 15:36-14:33 to give her team the go-ahead that they would not relinquish, leading by as many as 27 (77-50) at the 1:46 mark on a layup by Jenna Johnson.
The Lady Rams return to action on Saturday (1/23) at Dominican College for a 1 p.m. contest.
