Lady Rams Earn 69-64 Victory over Visiting Adelphi

Philadelphia, PA- The Philadelphia University Lady Rams (5-6, 3-0 CACC) used solid play-making all around to end a three-game losing streak and hand the Adelphi University Panthers (2-9, 0-7 NE-10) a 69-64 defeat at the Gallagher Athletic Center on Monday evening.  PhilaU senior center Jessica Romano (Horsham, PA/ Hatboro-Horsham) led all players with 19 points and nine rebounds.

AU's Erika Cottle led her squad with 15 points and four rebounds.

PhilaU held nearly every offensive advantage when the dust settled, including 49% from the field and 73% from the free-throw line.  Another difference-maker was the three-ball, as PhilaU senior forward Kate Brennan (Stratford, NJ/ Sterling) went 4-8 in that category- tallying more than the entire Panther team (3-17).  Brennan finished with 18 points in the game.

The first half saw four lead changes, including a 16-16 stalemate that was broken on a bucket by PhilaU sophomore forward Christine Wooding (Northfield, NJ/ Mainland) at 11:12.  Wooding had 17 points and four boards on the night.

The Panthers finished the first stanza on an 11-5 run, capped by a jumper from Ashley Caiafa to make it 43-34 going into the break.  AU's Caiafa had 11 points on the night.

In the second half the Lady Rams held AU to just 25% field goal shooting, while making twice as many buckets themselves.

A 14-7 PhilaU run over nearly 10 minutes of play put the Lady Rams within two (55-57).  PhilaU's Brennan exploded for three treys over a three minute period to tie it at 61 and Romano's layup at 2:24 gave the Lady Rams a 63-61 lead they would not relinquish.

PhilaU returns to action on Thursday (1/6/10) at Georgian Court for a 6 p.m. Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) contest.
