Lady Rams Season Ends in 72-64 CACC Quarterfinal Loss to GBC
Philadelphia, PA- The Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) South Division Quarterfinals saw the #2 Philadelphia University Lady Rams (15-13, 13-6 CACC) season end in a 72-64 loss to the #3 Goldey-Beacom College Lightning (17-11, 12-7 CACC) on Tuesday night at the Gallagher Athletic Center. The Lady Rams got a game-high 15 points from two seniors- guard Kate Brennan (Stratford, NJ/ Sterling) and center Jessica Romano (Horsham, PA/ Hatboro-Horsham)-who added 12 boards.
PhilaU shot 38% to GBC's 46% from field goal range, while outrebounding the Lightning 40-37.
GBC took the lead in the first half, a 26-16 advantage at 4:03 on a layup by Irene Hudson. The Lady Rams were determined though, as they scratched back to a 29-24 halftime deficit on a layup by Romano and trey from sophomore guard Deanna Kelly (Lafayette Hill, PA/ Archbishop Carroll). Kelly tallied eight points in the contest.
In the second half, PhilaU came back to cut it to 47-50 at 7:50 as senior guard Taylor Magnus (Plymouth Meeting, PA/ Plymouth Whitemarsh) hit a free throw.
Unfortunately, that would be as close as the Lady Rams would get as the Lightning strung together a 7-0 run keyed by leading scorer Devonne Richardson. Richardson led all scorers with 18 points and eight boards on the night.
PhilaU junior guard Ashley Gaskins (Harrisburg, PA/ Central Dauphin) hit a layup with 11 seconds remaining, but GBC ran the clock out to hold on for the 72-64 win. Gaskins added 11 points and eight rebounds for the Lady Rams.
The Lightning now advance to the CACC Semifinals on Friday (7 p.m., Caldwell College) to play Holy Family University at 7 p.m..
